Appoint professors selected by PSC for self-financing courses, says Pragya Thakur

BHOPAL: Member of Lok Sabha from Bhopal, Pragya Thakur said self-funding courses organized in colleges should be taught by professors selected by PSC and not by visiting scholars. She was attending a meeting of the Janbhagidari committee at the MVM Government College in Bhopal on Sunday.

The MP for Bhopal took advantage of the meeting of the Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyalaya (MVM) Government’s Janbhagidari Committee and expressed her displeasure with the college’s reliance on visiting scholars to teach the prescribed courses under the model of self-financing.

Thakur said that most of the professional courses like biotechnology, geology, computer science, etc. are taught on a self-funding model and taught by visiting scholars.

She was informed by college staff that the government had not approved and sanctioned positions for these courses.

The lawmaker for Bhopal said college authorities should write to the department and demand the sanctioning of posts related to these topics and that she will pursue the matter with the higher education minister and the chief minister.

These positions should be filled by professors selected by the PSC, she added.

She said students pay extra for self-funding courses, but it was ironic that they were taught by visiting academics.

Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur said teachers hired under the Janbhagidari program at MVM College will receive honoraria for 12 months. Currently, they are only paid and hired for 10 months. The fees of these teachers have also been increased and they will now receive Rs 18,000 to Rs 25,000.
