Channel 10 is set to overtake Masterchef Australia again in 2021 with reports today that the network has ordered a Celebrity version of the kitchen format.
The Media Journal column in The Australian reports today that Channel 10 has signed a new season of Celebrity Masterchef Australia. The commissioning of more of Masterchef comes as the network seeks to find something reliable it can use to support its schedule in Q4.
The celebrity version of Masterchef last aired on Australian screens in 2009. Its return in 2021 comes after a Junior Masterchef version of the franchise bombed dramatically in last year’s ratings, as current season fares worse than expected.
Interestingly, the Australian suggests an older model Lara bingle and former politician Julie bishop as two likely actors for the cooking show.
The return of Celebrity Masterchef comes at a time when Australia’s prime-time programming is inundated with D-level celebrities desperately trying to extend their 15 minutes of fame.
Nine this week created a reboot of Celebrity apprentice, while Seven has seasons ahead of SAS Australia and Celebrity Big Brother in preparation, and Foxtel has now ordered a local version of Celebrity Glasses Box, and of course, don’t forget I’m a celebrity, get me out of here and The masked singer Australiaâ¦.
