As the 2022-2023 school year rolls on full steam ahead, some area families with young children still at home may still be looking for rewarding opportunities to get their little ones out of the house and surround themselves with children of the same age. These same families may also have parents looking for fun events to entertain their children while they connect with other parents. To meet these needs, the Columbus Public Library (CPL) has launched its FREE fall 2022 children’s and tweens’ programming.
The library’s popular Storytime/ART program takes place every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. This exciting program allows toddlers and preschoolers to hear great stories and discover fun songs, poems and finger plays. . CPL’s Storytime/ART activities alternate between two formats each week: Storytime consists of a 30-minute book reading, playtime, and balloon creations and StoryART incorporates a 30-minute book reading, playtime, and craft that goes with the theme of the day.

Families who arrive early for story time sessions will have the chance to learn together, using different toys and activities that allow children to hone early learning skills like color recognition, counting, motor skills fine and sharing. When children interact during recess, parents are more than welcome to visit. These times provide needed respite from the work of being a dedicated stay-at-home parent.
For families who want activity (and perhaps respite from) their older school-aged children, the Columbus Public Library offers a monthly tween program called Tubular Tween Nights (TTN). This laid-back venue is scheduled for a Friday night from 6:30-9pm and kicks off September 30.
TTN is designed for students in grades 4-6 and provides them with a fun night in the library to relax, play games, and feast on tasty foods like pizza, tacos, and burgers! Registration for each TTN event is mandatory. Entrants must also have a notarized signed release form on file prior to entering. This form is valid until May 2023.
