As the permanent site of the World Internet Conference, Wuzhen is a city famous not only for its millennial history, but also for its modernity fueled by the digital economy and improved access to the Internet and services. smart.
With the support of Internet technology, Wuzhen has experienced rapid development of its digital economy enterprises. From 2014 to 2022, the number of companies in the digital economy has increased from 12 to more than 1,000.
In the first half of this year, major industries in the city’s digital economy invested 1.59 billion yuan ($219.28 million), a year-on-year increase of 27.24 percent, accelerating structural upgrades to pursue stable growth paths and high-quality development. .
The “Wuzhen Light” project has been under construction since last year’s WIC and has become the landmark of the event. The “Light of Wuzhen” intensive computing center has more than 3,600 users and a computing power utilization rate of 40%.
At present, the supercomputing center adopts the technical achievements of the prototype E-class supercomputer. Its data storage capacity reaches 60 petabytes, and its overall computing power is among the international top 10. The center is used for the construction of smart cities, artificial intelligence, research and development of new materials and the interpretation of genetic codes.
In addition to serving scientific research and industry, supercomputing technology has also served elements of everyday life.
According to Hu Fan, chief engineer of the supercomputing center “Light of Wuzhen”, in terms of film production, special effects require a high-performance computer to support rendering and large-scale scene production.
Weather forecasting is another common application of supercomputing. Many weather forecasts are the result of computationally intensive predictions. Today, supercomputers can accurately simulate and observe the movement of clouds. There will be faster supercomputers in the future, which will make weather forecasts more accurate, Hu said.
The Wuzhen Academicians’ House, which opened in May 2020, has so far attracted 53 academicians from home and abroad.
